Having created a unique appearance of the product or developed a design, the author has the opportunity to register an artistic solution. To patent an industrial design is an effective way to protect the original product from the offence of third parties. Before submitting documents to Rospatent, a preliminary patent search is carried out in order to check whether the applied design or appearance of the product is not patented. The application must be accompanied by a description of the industrial design, photographs or drawings, proving the special characteristics of the product. The period for checking the application by Rospatent lasts up to one and a half years, then the design is registered and a patent is issued or legal protection is denied.
