The Annual Meeting of the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) took place in Washington

In October the representatives of the company “Zuykov and Partners” attended the meeting of the AIPLAAssociation, held at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel.During the three-day Meeting the lawyers got acquainted with the examples of practical application of thenorms of the patent law and the copyright law, learned about the legislation features for trademarks andthe protection against unfair competition and discussed the recent trends in the intellectual property field.On the first day, the speakers discussed such themes as: the strategies on claiming the inventions relatedto the software and algorithms; the protection of trademarks in accordance with the Lanham Act againstfalse advertising; the current issues of the patent licensing and the copyright.The parallel flows of the second day became a place for the discussions on cyber defense, manufacturingsecrets, various lawsuits and the appeal practice. Also, the participants heard the speeches on the themes:“The international copyrights versus the global digital reality” and “The successful management and useof international trademarks.”The meeting was addressed by the Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Director ofthe United States Patent and Trademark Office, as well as by the Circuit Judges of the United States Courtof Appeals for the Federal Circuit, who introduced to the participants the most striking examples of thecase law and appeal proceedings.
