Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer is seeking, through Rospatent, to invalidate the “Pink Panther” trademark registered to the greenhouse complex Greenhouse (part of Magnit Group). The trademark is registered under Class 31 of the Nice Classification, which covers vegetables, fruits, and nuts. Currently, Greenhouse does not produce any goods under this brand.
MGM has previously filed a claim with Rospatent over the “Pink Panther” brand: in 2025, at the film company’s request, Rospatent invalidated a trademark of the same name registered in 2020 by RCHK-Trading LLC, a distributor of tea and coffee.
Patent attorney Sergey Zuykov, managing partner at Zuykov and partners, estimates the chances of invalidating the “Pink Panther” trademark as fairly high.
The withdrawal of Western companies from Russia will not affect the outcome of the dispute, Zuykov notes. Russia has not adopted any laws, court rulings, or official guidance under which the rights of foreign companies would not be protected or enforced, he explains.
Lawyers also note that Russia continues to participate in international agreements and treaties that ensure equal protection of intellectual property rights for both foreign rights holders within the country and Russian rights holders abroad. In practice, global rights holders systematically monitor trademark registries where new marks are recorded and successfully challenge them.
