UAE Introduces Flexible Deadline Extensions for Submitting Powers of Attorney in Trademark Applications

The Ministry of Economy and Tourism (UAE) has issued Administrative Decision No. 2 of 2026 to support business continuity and enhance the quality of service delivery in trademark procedures. The decision introduces temporary deadline extensions for certain trademark services in cases where applicants are unable to obtain the required certified documents within the prescribed time limits.

For new trademark applications, where a power of attorney is required but cannot be obtained within the initial 90-day period, the Trademark Office will adopt a more flexible approach. Instead of rejecting the application with no right of appeal after the expiry of the 90-day deadline, monthly extensions will now be granted.

This will allow applicants additional time to submit a duly notarised and legalised power of attorney, or a notarised power of attorney for local applicants, once it becomes available.

Applicants or their representatives must contact the Trademark Department before the expiry of the current granted period to request an additional 30-day extension in writing. No additional official fees will be charged for these extensions.

Nevertheless, applicants are encouraged to submit the requested documents as soon as they become available to ensure compliance with filing requirements.
