The IP&IT LAW – 2025 competition is open

In September 2024, the 10th All-Russian Youth Competition of Works on the Law of IP&IT 2025 started.

The competition is an annual event and traditionally takes place under the auspices of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). The organizers of the Competition are the IP CLUB together with the Coordination Center of the National Internet Domain

In 2018, the Competition was awarded the Runet Prize in a special nomination "For contribution to the development of legal thought in a digital society", in 2022 it was included in the list of the main legal competitions and law olympiads in the category "Scientific research contests".

Partners and goals of the Competition

The competition is held annually with the support of the Intellectual Property Rights Court, and the best competitive works recommended by the competition jury for publication are published in the Journal of the Intellectual Property Rights Court. Rospatent and the Commission for the Development of Creative Industries in the Council for Financial, Industrial and Investment Policy of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation provide information support to the competition.

Among the partners of the Competition, who award the laureates of the Competition with valuable awards and memorable prizes: the Center for International and Comparative Legal Studies, the EPAM Law Office, the Statute School of Law, the M-Logos Law Institute, the manufacturer of the first Russian innovative electric car gadget ATOM - JSC Kama, law companies: ALRUD, Semenov and Pevzner, Zuykov and partners, the Garant legal reference system. 

The information partners of the competition are: the Russian Agency for Legal and Judicial Information (RAPSI), the Journal of the Intellectual Property Court, the National Federation of Music Industries, the Consultant Plus legal reference system, the Legal Academy online educational platform for lawyers, Digital Law magazine, Journal of Digital Technologies and Law and International Journal of Law in Changing World, and others.

The objectives of the IP&IT LAW - 2025 are:

  • identification of promising areas in the field of legal support for the introduction and use of digital technologies, legal protection and protection of intellectual rights in the digital environment, legal support for electronic business; 
  • increasing young people's interest in legal issues closely related to the development of the digital economy; 
  • stimulating the growth of research activities of students, postgraduates and young professionals; 
  • attracting state and public attention to the legal aspects of the digital economy.

Terms of participation

Persons from Russia and other countries can participate in the Competition, namely:

  • students of state and non-state universities (bachelor's degree, specialty, master's degree);
  • young professionals who graduated from a university (bachelor's degree, specialty, master's degree) no more than 3 years ago;
  • graduate students and applicants for the degree of Candidate of Law;
  • young professionals who graduated from graduate school or defended their PhD thesis no more than a year ago.

The registration fee is not charged from the contestants, participation in the Competition is free of charge.

The competition involves the independent writing on one of the 10 topics approved by the organizers of the Competition. The topic of the work from Zuykov and partners is "Responsibility for violations in the field of intellectual property committed using AI." The author of the best work will receive a prize in the amount of 50 thousand rubles.

Competition regulations

The IP&IT LAW – 2025 and the determination of its winners are regulated by the Regulations on the holding of the 10th All-Russian Youth Competition of works on the law of information technology and intellectual property, compliance with the rules of which is ensured by the organizing committee of the Competition. The evaluation of the content of the competitive works is entrusted to the jury, which is created specifically for the Competition and which includes specialists in the field of intellectual property and information technology law, including doctors and candidates of law. The Regulation defines criteria for evaluating works that will eventually determine the winners of the Competition.

You can take part in the 10th All-Russian Youth Competition on the law of information Technology and intellectual property until February 1, 2025 (inclusive; until 21:00 Moscow time).
