Alcohol producers dispute the "Dew" trademark

“Russky Sever” is attempting to invalidate the "Rosa" ("Dew") trademark. Under this brand, the major Russian alcohol producer Rust Group has been producing vodka since early 2025. The dispute arose due to the depiction of a leaf that resembles a trademark registered by Russky Sever back in 2022.

Russky Sever has filed a complaint with the Chamber for Patent Disputes regarding the green leaf used in the Rosa brand, pointing out its similarity to their own registered green leaf. Meanwhile, Rust Group argues that the green leaf registered by Russky Sever, without any additional distinctive elements, is not unique and lacks distinctiveness.

Patent attorney and managing partner of Zuykov & Partners, Sergey Zuykov, believes that Russky Sever is attempting to cancel the Rosa trademark. In his opinion, the company will argue that its trademark has an earlier priority. Russky Sever registered its leaf in 2022, while Rust Group registered its mark in 2025. According to Forward Legal lawyer Alena Panteley, the earlier priority of Russky Sever’s trademark could play a significant role in the dispute’s consideration. Although some similarity between the trademarks may indeed be observed, the difference in the verbal elements may also be of substantial importance, she notes.
