On September 9, the Eurasian Patent Office celebrated the anniversary of the Eurasian Patent Convention.
In honor of the 30th anniversary, a special event was held, attended by the leaders of national patent offices from member states of the Eurasian Patent Organization as well as Deputy Secretary General of the Commonwealth of Independent States, Ilkhom Nematov, and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Alexander Pankin. Sergey Zuykov, managing partner and Eurasian patent attorney, gave a speech at the ceremony.
The Eurasian Patent Convention was signed in Moscow on September 9, 1994, and on its basis, the Eurasian Patent Organization was established for the legal protection of industrial property in Eurasia. Inventors and entrepreneurs worldwide can obtain patents in 8 countries: Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan.
During the event, the EAPO and the Belarus, Russia, and Tajikistan departments signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the Eurasian Accelerated Patent Office Program. The program is aimed at developing expert interaction and harmonization of practices.
